Description
Diageo, a drinks producer, is to cut up to 900 jobs in Scotland, at sites in Kilmarnock, Port Dundas, Dundashill, and Shildehall. The cuts are blamed on a decline in sales and are aimed at making the business more sustainable. The company plans to close its packaging site in Kilmarnock with the loss of 400 jobs and its sites in Port Dundas and Dundashill resulting in the loss of 140 jobs. 30 jobs will also be lost from the Shiledhall packaging plant.
The Scottish Finance Secretary urged the company to guarantee that it will not make any compulsory redundancies for 12 months. The cuts will be implemented by 2011.
