Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Image Wear, the Estonian subsidiary of the Finnish workwear manufacturing company Image Wear Oy, is reducing its workforce by a total of 32 jobs in June 2009. This forms about 11% of the total number of workers in the company, which stood at 303 before the redundancies took place.
All 32 jobs are cut through direct redundancies - the Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund (Töötukassa) made a decision to pay out the redundancy benefits on 27 May 2009. According to the Unemployment Insurance Fund, the redundancies will take place on 5 June 2009. There is no information on the exact timeline.
Image Wear is manufacturing workwear in three sites across Estonia - Tallinn, Jõhvi and Tartu. The company also has shops in all three locations to sell their products to the local market. The Image Wear corporation also has a site in Russia, St Petersburg.
