Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Levantina group, a manufacturer of decorative stones and marble located in Novelda (Alicante), plans to launch a job reduction plan (Expediente de Regulacion de Empleo in Spanish, ERE) which will involve the loss of 154 jobs in its production plants and another 77 jobs in administrative functions and sales. The company blames the redundancies on the notable decrease in sales in the first four-month period of 2009 and aims at adjusting its production capacity and cut production costs.
The company has 1,600 employees - 1,200 production jobs and 400 jobs in sales and adminstration-related functions.
