Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Chaffoteaux, a French manufacturer of gas boilers and water heaters, has announced the loss of 149 to 207 at its site in Ploufragan. The job losses are attributed to the need to cut costs.
The final decision whether to cut 149 or 207 jobs will be taken on July 1st, 2009. The trade unions announced they would try to find alternatives and limit the number of direct dismissals as much as possible. Employees fear the closure of Chaffoteaux.
Chaffoteaux currently employs 250 people in Ploufragan. The company is part of the Italian Ariston Thermo Group, a leader in the household appliance manufacturing industry.
