Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Altadis, a subsidiary of Imperial Tobacco, has announced that it is to cut about 1,060 jobs in France by the end of 2010. The group plans to close down factories in Strasbourg (228 workers) and Metz (130 workers) and reduce the number of employees at sites in Riom, Le Havre, Les Aubrais and at the headquarters in Paris. The job cuts are part of a larger restructuring programme affecting several European locations (see Factsheet 11219). Altadis employs 4700 workers in France.
