Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Hansen Transmission, specialized in the production of wind turbines, is about to cut 109 jobs at its plants in Lommel and Edegem (Flanders). The company is facing a severe decrease in demand for its products and 1,600 of its blue-collars worldwide are currently in temporary unemployment. The management has to meet the social partners who intend to propose alternatives and reduce the number of direct dismissals.
