Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Danish manufacturer of pumps and compressors, Grundfos based in Bjerringbro, Jutland, announced 23 April that 391 employees will be made redundant at its headquarters due to the current financial crisis. The dismissals will include 212 salaried employees (white-collar) and the rest will be divided between skilled and unskilled workers. It is the first time ever that the multinational company has reduced staff among the salaried employees. Furthermore Grundfos has 1,000 hourly-paid workers at work-sharing in the lawful 13 weeks. Grundfos has 4,500 employees in Bjerringbro and 18,000 worldwide.
