Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Alfa Laval, a manufacturer of energy-saving equipment, plans to cut 293 jobs by the end of January 2010 due to a decline in orders. About one third of the 293 employees that are about to leave Alva Laval have done so voluntarily in exchange of a contractual pension. Many of the other dismissed employees have been laid off during their period of notice because of the significant decrease in production.
Alfa Laval designs and manufactures equipment for heat transfer, separation and sanitary applications. The company provides energy-efficient solutions for heating, cooling, ventilation, evaporation and condensation. Their product range includes heat exchangers, heating and cooling systems, and centrifuges.
