Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Harley-Davidson, a US-based global leader in the production of motorcycles, has announced its plan to cut up to 1,500 jobs worldwide due to a sharp decline of profit (by 37%) during the first quarter of 2009. The job losses will be implemented within two years, about 400 jobs will be axed at the first stage (no precise timeline mentioned). Harley-Davidson currently employs 9,000 people across the world.
