Description

The mining firm Rudmetal has announced that it is to cut some 200 jobs at the plant in Rudozem. The job losses will take effect as of 1st May 2009. The firm claims layoffs are now inevitable as the crisis continues and the state has not lent the company a helping hand. Five months ago the metal price slump halted the operations of the Dimov Dol mine, owned by Rudmetal, and sent workers on unpaid leave. The employer has informed the local labour exchange office of the layoffs. Miners are given a one-month notice with dismissals effective as of May 1. At a meeting with employees on Tuesday, the management gave details on the severance plans. A miner will get a net severance pay of some BGN 750, said Rudmetal executive director, Mitko Mladenov.
