Construction supplier company Wolseley, which trades as Build Center and Plumb Center, is to cut 269 jobs. Its distribution centres in Chorley and Didcot are to be closed with the loss of 133 and 76 jobs respectively, with a further 60 at the transport bases which support the centres. There will be a 90 day consultation period for all staff affected. The company, which has cut about 17,000 staff and shut 713 branches globally since August 2007, says the current economic downturn is responsible. No details were given on numbers currently employed by the company or the date by which job losses are expected to be completed.
