Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Merian Orosháza Finom Szárnyas Különlegességek Zrt, one of the oldest meat processing factories in Hungary dating back to 1896, is to cut 210 jobs out of 450. Workers will be dismissed gradually from March 2009 onward. The company has been under liquidation for the last three years. Notwithstanding, the liquidator still hopes to find a new investor who would carry on with production employing the remaining workforce.
The company, based in Orosháza (Békés County) produces a wide variety of well-known labels in the Hungarian market such as Orsi, Aletta and Bábolna. Merian also manufactures goose and duck liver products and tinned products for exports (the product's wrapping won World Star competition in 1998).
