Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Alcatel Lucent, a world leader in fixed, mobile and converged broadband networking, IP technologies, applications and services, is to cut 200 jobs at its site located at Battipaglia, in the province of Naples. The company has announced the outsourcing of production division located at Battipaglia. In the same place, Alcatel Lucent has a R&D centre, which employs around 200 engineers. The trade unions felt a strong dislike for the company's decision. Moreover, they are worried that, after the outsourcing of the production, the company will decide to close also the R&D centre. Alcatel Lucent operates in 130 countries and it has more than 77,000 employees worldwide.
