Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Photowatt, a company specialised in manufacturing photovoltaics, is to lay off 160 temporary employees at its site in Bourgoin-Jallieu. The job cuts are blamed on a decrease in demand for solar modules and systems and are a part of wider restructuring program launched at the beginning of last year by ATS group. According to ATS mangement, company is "in a strong position to continue to serve its customer base." The restructuring plan includes layoffs in Cambridge and the sale of the ATS groups's auto parts division. ATS acquired Photowatt in 1997. Photowatt France now employs over 700 people.
