Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Geman owned textile company Amann Industries, located in Tralee Couny Kerry, is to close with the loss of all 210 remaining jobs. This comes after 120 redundancies were announced in January in a restructuring exercise, with those jobs being offshored to existing Amann plants in Romania and Germany. The company has now announced that the remaining 210 jobs are to be lost in two main phases over the next 12 months, with production being offshored to China and Asia. The plant's equipment is also to be transferred to China. High energy costs, labour and other manufacturing costs were behind the closure decision.
