Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Véolia Environnement, French recycling company, announced on 17th April that it is to recruit between 5000 and 9000 permanent workers this year. This represents a decline on recruitment levels in recent years which the company attributes to the economic crisis and its impact on the volume of industrial waste made available for recycling (down 30%). The company has reported difficulties in attracting qualified staff despite the downturn and intends to mount a country-wide recruitment campaign starting in April to hire for positions such as drivers, plumbers and mechanics.
Veolia Environnement employs nearly 300,000 people worldwide.
