Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Schaeffler, a manufacturer of roller bearings, plain bearings, linear systems and precision components for the automotive industry, is to close its timing chain factory in St. Simeon de Bressieux, near Grenoble with a consequent loss of 195 jobs. The production will be relocated to the facility in Calais. The cuts are blamed on the considerable drop in automotive production in the region. According to the company, redundancy packages for the affected workforce were negotiatied with local trade unions.
