Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 31 March 2009, telecom group KPN annouced that it is to cut 1,400 jobs at its software and consultancy subsidiary Getronics. Getronics itself will lose 950 jobs (of which 700 in the Netherlands). The remainder job losses will affect posted workers. For the unions, the announcements was a unpleasant surprise. Only one and a half week earlier, a social plan had been agreed.
