Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 17 April 2009, IT company AtosOrigin stated that it had reduced its workforce in the Netherlands by 443 jobs (5% of the total). 214 of these cuts were the result of the sale of a daughter comapny. The rest had occurred because of not replacing employees that left. There had been no forced dismissals. AtosOrigin has been hit hard by price competition in the sector. Analysts expect more resturcturing (including forced dismissals) in the near future.
