The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Air France, one of the main airline companies, is to cut 2,500 to 3,000 jobs Europe-wide by the end of 2011. According to the company, over the next years it will be necessary to rationalize the workforce in order to cope with the drop in demand due to the recent economic crisis. There will be no forced dismissals. the jobs would go through not replacing staff who are retiring and not renewing temporary contracts. In February 2009, Air France has already announced 1,000 to 1,200 redundancies.
