Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The French automobile manufacturer Renault is to cut 170 jobs at its site in Vilvoorde. The plant was already restructured in 1997, which resulted in 3000 job cuts and limiting the scope of activity to fixation of rims and pipes. Due to a drop in demand in the automobile industry, Renault decided to keep only one department, employing 60 workers in Vilvoodrde. The remaining 170 employees will, for the most part, be early retired.
