Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Mesna Industrija Promorske (Meat Industry of Primorska; MIP) is one of the largest food processing companies in Slovenia, engaged in the production of meat and meat products. MIP has production capacities in various part of Slovenia, the main being in Nova Gorica (Notranjsko-kraška region) and Gornja Radgona (Pomurska region). Due to bad investment decisions, the company has been in trouble for some time and at the beginning of April the bankruptcy procedure was launched. Current economic recession is not the reason for MIP's problems. 750 jobs is in jeopardy because of the bankruptcy.
On 2009-04-15, 236 employees from Gronja Radgona were dismissed. The same happened to 262 employees in Nova Gorica on 2009-04-17.
