Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
ArcelorMittal is to stop the activities at its site "la decaperie de la Praye," specialised in the stripping of stainless carbon, employing 150 people in Châtelet. The stripping site, which was already suspended and its employees temporarily unemployed, will temporarily stop all these activities for at least two years. However, the management did not forecast any direct dismissals. 38 workers could leave the company thanks to early retirement, 10 could leave voluntary the company while the others should be placed on other sites. ArcelorMittal is facing an important decrease in demand and is severely indebted. The trade unions are pessimistic concerning a re-launch of the site when the demand will increase.
