Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 2 March 2009 the Germany-based construction material manufacturer Knauf announced that is to close part of its plant in Ferndorf, Carinthia with the loss of 109 jobs. The business division of mineral wool production (i.e. an insulating material) at the Ferndorf site will also be closed down due to major sales problems. A social plan has already been prepared and the parties involved are negotiating the terms of a planned re-employment scheme.
