Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The lens manufacturer Indo International, has reported that it has presented an ERE (Redundancy Dismissal Procedure) to the labour authority for the termination of the employment contracts of 135 of its employees in Spain, for reasons related to the economy, productivity, and organization. This process will affect the centres in Sant Cugat del Vallès, Palau de Plegamans, Alcobendas, Seville, the Canary Islands, Malaga, Bilbao and Murcia. This measure also includes the shutting down of centres in Malaga, Bilbao and Murcia. In 2008, Indo relocated part of its production. See: http://www.eurofound.europa.eu/emcc/erm/factsheets/11367
