Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
GlaxoSmithKline, a global pharmaceutical group, has announced its plans to cut 1,184 of its 2,000 jobs at its plant in Evreux, Haute-Normandie in northern France.
In February 2009, the group has announced that it will make 798 employees redundant at its plant in Evreux, Haute-Normandie. The redundancies represent 40% of the workforce (2000 approx). 96 of the redundancies will come from the research unit, which is to be closed.
In October 2009, the CEO has announced the cuts of 434 additional jobs. This is part of a global cost-cutting programme. The group announced that it intended to save €1.9 million between now and 2011.
