Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Texas Instruments, a US semi conductor manufacturer based in the south of France, has announced it will lay off 300 employees. The company is based in Villeneuve-Loubet and employs 920 people at its site there. The company has already cut some sub-contractor jobs at the factory, and now is is focusing on direct employees. There is no information on the number of sub-contractor jobs previously cut. Of the 300 - 305 employees to lose their jobs, 130 will be achieved via direct dismissals, while 170 are expected to be achieved using voluntary redundancies and early retirement.
The company is expected to sign a convention with local institutions to help boost the job market of the region, to endeavour over the next three years to create as many jobs as have been cut.
