Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Plastal Holding, a supplier of plastic components to the automotive industry, filed for bankruptcy March 5, 2009. A total of 550 employees in Göteborg, Simrishamn, and Uddevalla are affected by the bankruptcy. The company has suffered a severe liquidity crisis due to the sharp downturn in the automotive industry and the distressed financial markets. Plastal is a supplier of engineered plastics to the automotive industry. Plastal manufacture interior and exterior plastic components, for cars as well as light and heavy trucks. The main product area is bumper systems, which the company develops, manufactures and delivers.
The Plastal group has over 6,000 employees at 30 production facilities and four engineering centres in Belgium, China, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom. Plastal had sales of about EUR 1,300 million in 2008.
