Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Odelo Slovenija, which manufactures lighting equipment for the automobile industry, has made redundant 50 employees at its plant in Prebold. Since the redundancies 400 employees now work at the plant. Odelo Slovenija is a subsidiary of German based Odelo (the company recently changed its name from Schefenacker Vision Systems) and is located in Prebold in the Savinjska region. The reason for the redundancies are reduced orders. The dismissed workers were those employed via agencies and those with fixed-term contracts. The company also reduced the weekly working time from 42 to 36 hours. Lower salaries due to shorter working time will be compensated by the assistance from the government anti-recession scheme in the monthly amount of EUR 60 EUR per employee.
