Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
SG Automative, which produces components for the automobile industry, is to make redundant 66 of 400 employees at its plant in Slovenske Konjice. SG Automotive is a producer of electronic components and wire harnessing for the automotive industry. The company is located in Slovenske Konjice in the Savinjska region. In the last quarter of 2008 the company faced a 20% reduction in orders, which increased to a 40% reduction in the first months of 2009. That is why the company has decided to laid off 66 people, and reduce the workforce from 400 to 334. In the case of 55 employees, their fixed-term contracts were not prolonged, while 11 workers were laid off from the business.
