Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The state-owned coal mining company Store Norske Spitsbergen Grubekompani at Svalbard has announced that it is to reduce its workforce from 400 to 300 employees during the coming two years. As the coal prices have now dropped dramatically, the manager, Bjørn Arnestad, told the newspaper E24 that the company had to cut costs by 15% to prepare for a challenging future. The company will therefore reduce the scale of hired services as well as the number of employees. The manager told E24 that there will be no dismissals.
