Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Seber, a pharmaceutical company based in Portugal, has closed with the loss of 120 jobs. The closure is based on a decision taken by the owners and took the employees by surprise, as the company had a stable financial and economic situation.
Besides the unit, locatedin Póvoa de Santo Adrião (in the surrounding of Lisbon) the warehouses owned by the company in Coimbra and Porto, as well as other services, were also closed.
This closure will affect more than 120 workers and the company will pay a compensation of one monthly wage per year of service (the amount required by law).
