Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Approximately 1,000 employees from the Galati subsidiary of the Arcelor Mittal group have been made redundant on a voluntary basis. Another 1,000 employees are waiting the answer from the management regarding their request to leave the company. The programme for voluntary redundancies from 1 January to 31 March 2009 envisages compensatory payments of 2,300-5,800 euro according to the length of service plus 24 months gross wages equivalent to the gross wage in the last month of employment. At present, the Galati site employs 12,500 people.
