Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Fiskars Corporation's subsidiary Iittala Group is to cut 51 jobs. Iittala concluded personnel negotiations on redundancies and temporary lay-offs at its plants in Arabia (Helsinki), Iittala, and Nuutajärvi. In addition, temporary lay-offs will effect some 300 employees at these factories for some 8 weeks during 2009. The negotiations that started in February 2009 were aimed at adapting the plants' operations to a challenging market environment. Personnel negotiations concerned some 450 employees.
Fiskars is a leading global supplier of consumer products for the home, garden and outdoors. The group has a strong portfolio of trusted international brands including Fiskars, Iittala, Gerber, Silva, and Buster. Associated company, Wärtsilä Corporation, is also an important part of the group, and forms one of Fiskars' operating segments, together with the Americas, EMEA, and Other. Founded in 1649 and listed on NASDAQ OMX Helsinki, Fiskars is Finland's oldest company. Fiskars recorded net sales of 697 million in 2008, and employs some 4,100 people.
