Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The cosmetic stores, DI, will close 34 stores overall in Belgium, resulting in lay offs for 200 employees. The DI stores are suffering from competition from other similar retailers, such as Kruidvat. The stores recorded a loss of 5.9 million Euro for 2008. The management want to revise the collective agreement negotiated with the trade unions, including the working conditions and wages, which are too high according to the management. The trade unions denounce problems in the management of the stores and the financial accounts of the company.
