Description
After talks with trailer producer DAF a union representative announced on 17 February 2009 that DAF will cut 570 jobs over the summer 2009. This is 400 more than DAF had mentioned in the week before. The plant faces a loss in turnover of some 50%. At the end of 2008 DAF already ended 1,500 flex contracts. Since 5 January 2009, 3,500 employees work shorter hours. This is financed by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment. Union representatives fear that yet more job losses are to be foreseen in the near future.
