Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
In 2008, Styria Vzmeti, a producer of fasteners, screw machine products, chain and springs, reduced its workforce by 101 workers (65 employees on fixed term contracts, 20 workers employed via employment agencies and 16 workers on permanent contracts). The company has recently announced that it is to cut another 45 jobs. The number of employees in the company will be then reduced to 115. The reason for the downsizing of employment is decrease of orders. The company is located in the town of Ravne na Koroškem in the Koroška region and is part of the Austrian based Styria Group.
