Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Rio Tinto, an Australian mining company, is to make redundant 680 employees across various sites in France. The redundancies are part of a European-wide restructuring involving 1,500 job cuts. The company announced its restructuring plan this week following a meeting with a European Work's Council. " These measurements, although difficult, are essential to make it possible for Rio Tinto to face the difficulties of the sector and to remain competitivie", explained Hugo Bagué, HR Director of the group. Rio Tinto Alcan has additionally announced 1,100 job cuts worldwide.
