Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.

General Motors, the US biggest carmaker, has presented a reviewed restructuring plan that envisages 47,000 job cuts out of a total 244,500 worldwide by the end of 2009 due to a further deterioration of the global economy. The dismissals are the largest workforce reduction announced by a US company since the beginning of 2008. The GM job cuts include 10,000 salaried and 37,000 blue-collar positions. Jobs outside the US will account for 26,000 of the reductions.
