Description

In January 2009, the directors of Huta Cynku Miasteczko Śląskie (HCM), the zinc mine, made an agreement with trade unions active at HCM with regard to group redundancies. A fifth of HCM's 1,000 employees will be made redundant by the end of June 2009. HCM is one of Poland's largest producers of zinc and lead. It is now facing liabilities in excess of PLN 100 million; it posted a loss for 2008, and its banks have scaled back financing.
