Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Clariant, a Swiss producer of chemicals, has announced that it is to cut 200 jobs across Germany in 2009. The job losses are part of a large restructuring programme involving 1,000 job cuts in other European countries. These cost-cutting measures are attributed to the company's financial difficulties. The company, which employs a workforce of 20,100 (as of December 2008) embarked on a cost-saving programme in 2006 whicht at that time involved 2,200 job cuts.
