Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Eurallumina, a refinery that produces aluminium, is to close with the consequent loss of 450 jobs. Eurallumina is locatedĀ at the Portovesme industrial area, in the province of Cagliari. Eurallumina belongs to the Russian company Rusal, the world's largest producer of aluminium and alumina. Rusal has around 90,000 employees worldwide. In order to tackle the global economic downturn and the consequent fall of the aluminium's demand, theĀ group has recently announced a comprehensive programme to increase its efficiency. The plan includes the reduction of about 11% of the total production of aluminium.
