Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Irish airline Ryanair has announced 200 redundancies at Dublin Airport, as a result of cuts in its summer schedule and a reduction in planes. Ryanair has placed the blame on the Irish Government's decision to introduce a €10 travel tax from April. The airline added that the positions will be moved from Dublin to its other European bases. However, engineers, pilots and cabin crew affected are to be offered the chance to relocate from Dublin to bases outside Ireland.
The company is also examing other measures to cut costs which may see some departments having their pay cut by 5%-10%.
