Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
ASM International, which produces semiconductor equipment, announced on the 9th January 2009 that it will cut 200 jobs in Almere, in the Netherlands. The job cuts are due to a relocation of manufacturing and operational procurement activities from the Netherlands to Singapore. Following this relocation, only 350 jobs (out of a total of almost 12,000 worldwide) will remain in Europe.
