AstraZeneca, a Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical company, has announced that it is to cut 1,400 jobs by 2013 and to close three European factories located in Belgium, Spain and Sweden. 250 job losses are also expected in the UK at the company's site in Macclesfield. Just over 1,050 of the job cuts will occur by 2010 with the remainder, mainly positions in Sweden, made between 2010 and 2013. A company's spokesman said that "these moves are a continuation of AstraZeneca's programme to improve the organisation's productivity and efficiency".
