Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Grundfos, international manufacturer of pumps and compressors, is to cut 208 jobs at its plant in Bjerringbro, Jutland. This was announced on 26 January 2009. The reason given is downsizing as a result of the general recession. "This unfortunately means dismissals among unskilled as well as skilled and white-collar workers", the management announced, "by reacting now we secure the basis for the growth we want to see in the coming years". Of the 208 workers to be dismissesd, 58 are employed on fixed-term contracts.
