Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Corning, the world leader in specialty glass and ceramics, is to cut 3,500 jobs by the end of 2009. On 27 January 2009, the company announced the results for the fourth quarter and full year 2008, along with the company's planned restructuring actions. Around 1,500 redundant workers are salaried employees, while around 1,400 are temporary workers. Corning operates in five markets: display technologies; environmental Technologies; telecommunications; life sciences; specialty optic materials. It has around 30,000 employees worldwide.
