Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Carrefour, a world leader in distribution, is to cut 612 jobs in Italy. The last summer the company announced a reorganisation plan that envisaged a reduction of its workforce in some regions. In particular, in September and October, 500 job cuts affected the supermarkets located in Campania and in Puglia; while, at the beginning of the new year, the company has announced 112 job cuts at the hypermarket locatedĀ in Rome.
The trade unions reacted to the company's decision doing several industrial actions. Carrefour is the world's second largest retailer and the largest in Europe. It has around 25,000 employees in Italy.
