Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Due to the deteriorating market situation, the Ahlsell Group gave lay-off notice to 500 employees on 26th of November 2008. Of the employees concerned, 300 work in the Group's Swedish operations and the remaining 200 are employed primarily in Norway and Finland. Negotiations between the management and relevant unions will start soon.
Ahlsell is a leading Sweden-based technical trading company in the Nordic countries within installation products, tools and machinery. It also operates in the Baltic countries and Russia.
On 28th of January the manager in Norway told VVS Aktuelt that the exact number of job cuts in Norway was 150. Of these 85 were permanent employees, the remainder were on temporary agency work contracts and project work contract.
