Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Tenneco, manufacturer of shocks absorbers for cars in Sint-Truiden, Belgium, has announced that it will not renew the contracts of 180 temporary employees. One first measure was announced last October and led to the end of the employment contract of 100 temporary employees. In December 2008, 80 further employees learnt that their contract will be not renewed. The demand for shocks absorbers has decreased dramatically these last few months because of the decrease in demand in the automobile industry.
